We'll be reading West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge. The story is based on actual events in 1938. After surviving a hurricane, two giraffes are transported across the country to their new home at the San Diego Zoo.
The publisher describes it as a book about "what it means to be changed by the grace of animals, the kindness of strangers, the passing of time, and a story told before it's too late."
Book Fee: $13.50 with scholarships available.
