Join us for a meaningful and impactful community event! We’re proud to be a new partner with Borderlands Produce Rescue, a respected Arizona-based non-profit whose mission is to “supplement meals in Arizona communities with fresh nutritious rescued produce while reducing food waste and methane gas from landfills.”
Here’s what you need to know:
You’ll have the opportunity to receive up to 70 lbs of fresh, “rescued” produce for a minimum donation of $15.
“Rescued” produce means fruits and vegetables that are still nutritious and wholesome, but for one reason or another could not be sold or would otherwise be sent to a landfill. Borderlands picks up these items and redistributes them to support community meals and reduce waste.
Participation is open to all – no income or residency requirements are necessary. Share with your neighbors, friends, and family!
Volunteers are a key part of making this event happen: tasks include setup, sorting produce, traffic control, loading vehicles, and clean-up. No prior experience is needed. (Contact us if you’re interested in volunteering.)
Why this matters:
When good food is wasted, it costs us far more than just tossed produce – it wastes water, energy, land, and contributes to harmful greenhouse gases. Borderlands has rescued millions of pounds of produce, helping both people and the planet.
By participating, you’re helping curb food waste, empowering your community with nutritious food, and embodying the values of care, service, and stewardship.
Details & Tips:
Arrive early – this is a first-come event, and donated boxes go fast.
Please bring appropriate vehicle space/trunk capacity if picking up a full box of produce.
Cash donation only at the site (per BPR’s standard).
Share what you can — if you know friends or neighbors who could benefit, invite them!
If you’d like to volunteer, please contact our Director of Adult Ministries & Missional Service, Denise McClellan, at dmcclellan@desertcross.org or 480-730-8600.
Let’s come together to feed our neighbors, serve our community, and protect the planet. We hope to see you there!
