CONFIRMATION

Confirmation, also called Affirmation of Baptism, is the time when young people declare for themselves that they will live out the promises made for them by their parents and sponsors in their baptism.

At baptism, parents and sponsors promise: “… to live with them among God’s faithful people, bring them to the word of God and the holy supper, teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments, place in their hands the Holy Scriptures, and nurture them in faith and prayer, so that your children may learn to trust God, proclaim Christ through word and deed, care for others and the world God made, and work for justice and peace.”

Through exploration of faith in church and our lives, we are prepared to boldly and confidently live out our faith in our church and the world!

Confirmation is a wonderful opportunity for teenagers to wrestle with their faith in meaningful
ways. Once again this year, we hope to create a space where that can happen. And while that
won’t change, a couple of other things regarding Confirmation will look different in the year
ahead.
First, we will be including 6th graders in our meetings this coming year. So 6th, 7th, 8th and
any 9th graders who did not get confirmed last year will be part of our group. Second, we will
gather on Sunday mornings during Faith Formation. In Tempe we will meet between worship services,
and in Gilbert we will meet after the worship service.
Beyond our Sunday morning gatherings, your son or daughter is required to fill out 15
“Pew Views” (sermon notes) by May. You will find the “Pew View” sheet in the back of
the sanctuary at both locations. I will also send an email link so that you can print some
from home. We are also asking your 6 th -8 th grader to serve in worship once a semester.
This could be as a reader, usher, communion assistant, PowerPoint slides, playing an
instrument for special music or the many other ways people serve on Sunday morning.
We hope this time change will be more convenient for you and your family. Watch for emails and snail mail for more details about the year ahead. Feel free to reach out to Katelyn, Pastor Thadd or Pastor Andrea if you have any questions. We look forward to the year ahead of wrestling with our faith and having a lot of fun along the way!
